Images of shapes bending space arise in my meditation practice. The shapes are off-axial, off-kilter and asymmetric, challenging the edge and picture plane to address the viewer and the room. These intimately scaled paintings are architectural.

I began these non-objective paintings in 2018 while still painting large-scale monochromatic Color Volumes which celebrate the physicality of California’s coastal light. The White + Black paintings were begun as the country lurched toward fascism and continued as protesters took to the streets. I began painting in oils in 2019 after painting with acrylics for 40 years.

My paintings are in the Collections of Berkeley Art Museum and Oakland Museum of California. I have had one-person exhibitions at University of California at Davis Memorial Union Gallery and John Gaulbert Gallery. My work has been exhibited at MASSMoCA, De Young Museum, CICA Museum and Boston Visual Artists Union. Peter Selz included me in Abstract Visions at Berkeley Art Center, a small group exhibition. In 1996, I was an artist-in-residence at Chinati Foundation, Marfa, TX. I have written about the work of Judd and McCracken; Thomas Hirschhorn; Bruce Nauman; Jenny Holzer, Eva Hesse for stretcher.
