Jeannie O’Connor

Jeannie O’Connor was born in San Francisco and went to UC Berkeley. Jeannie has been a photographer for over 50 years, winning both a Seca and a Phelan awards in photography. She has exhibited in Germany, Italy, Spain, and India, and is in the collection of the Bibliotheque National. My main interests are the portrait, and urban architecture. I have been documenting the gentrification in the East Bay, often looking at buildings in transition from manufacturing to live-work spaces. Lately, the multiple layers of paint and graffiti that often appear on the buildings due to turf wars between taggers and landlords, have led to adding collage to the images to recreate the layering and celebrate the zaniness. The image I have in the exhibit is from Richmond, and is a vintage building from the 60’s, when cars had fins and architects had fun.
