Statement

My work explores patterns in nature ranging in scale from the minute to the monumental. As a life-long painter with a mixed-media practice, I have in recent years begun working with the experimental photographic process of cyanotype, in which the interplay of sunlight and shadow during the exposure parallels the painting process. I often seek out wild places where I can work outdoors using materials sourced directly from the surroundings, and allow time- and weather-based natural phenomena to influence each piece. When I bring these works back to the studio, I often enhance them with meditative mark-making and the addition of pigments, inks, wax, and embroidery.

By engaging with materials that are responsive to the elements, I feel a deep connection with place on both a microscopic and macroscopic level, and seek to represent the vast and the infinitesimal as a unified whole in my work. I also enjoy a sense of freedom in experimenting with materials and surrendering control in working with unpredictable elements
